Fresh off Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s record-breaking box office debut, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has given fans another reason.
The Marvel boss has confirmed that plans for Spider-Man 5are already in place after the latest web-slinging adventure swung to theaters on July 31.
“There are always plans,” Feige said while speaking about the franchise’s future.
Although Marvel and its creative partners are already looking ahead, the acclaimed producer indicated that Tom Holland won’t be putting the suit back on just yet.
“But right now, he’s [Tom Holland] going to rest after that global tour. He and Zendaya are going to take a good and restful victory lap, which they very much deserve,” Feige, 53, added.
The update comes as the newest Spider-Manfilm continues to dominate theaters, earning an impressive $360 million at the domestic box office and $930 million worldwide during its opening weekend.
Feige’s comments suggest that while development on a fifth installment is moving forward, Marvel intends to give its leading stars time to recharge following an extensive global promotional tour.
Meanwhile, producer Amy Pascal also expressed hope that director Destin Daniel Cretton will return to helm the next chapter of Peter Parker’s story.
“If we have our way, he certainly will be,” Pascal said when asked about Cretton’s future with the franchise.
Cretton, who directed the latest installment, also appeared enthusiastic about the possibility of returning. Asked whether he would be interested in directing Spider-Man 5, he gave a simple but encouraging response: “Sure.”
