‘Big U’ South Los Angeles gang kingpin Eugene Henley Jr. has been hit with fresh charges on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
In the latest controversy, L.A. music mogul commonly known as ‘Big U’ is charged with offering cash to his fellow jail inmates to murder or seriously injure a witness against him in a racketeering case.
The L.A. authorities described Henley Jr.’s enterprise as nothing short of a ‘mafia-like’ criminal enterprise that included murder, human trafficking, and extortion.
Henley, 59, is awaiting trial in the L.A. federal court and has remained in federal prison since March 2025.
‘Big U’ was accused of the killing of an L.A. rapper, chasing his big break in 2021 in Las Vegas.
A federal grand jury on Wednesday, July 29, charged Henly with seven additional felonies that include two counts each of solicitation to commit a violent crime and witness tampering.
A 43-count indictment filed in March 2025 provides details for a single count of hatching a conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
Other counts provide an insight into how Henley had built a criminal enterprise over time, that includes robbery, extortion, wire fraud and embezzlement.
Henley, before surrendering to the authorities last year, a self-proclaimed anti-gang activist from the South L.A. community of Hyde Park, shared posts on social media insisting he did nothing wrong.
Henley and a half-dozen other accomplices are facing a federal trial in Los Angeles federal court that begins in February 2027.
