Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are currently maintaining a low-profile as their parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, remain embroiled in controversy.
The ex-prince Andrew is under investigation, which the King has vowed to support, and Fergie has been ousted from every charity and business that she had been a part of. Even though, Fergie is not directly accused of any wrong-doing, she has faced a similar backlash to her ex-husband.
Andrew was firmly ousted from his royal residence and stripped off of his titles and honorifics. Buckingham Palace had announced that Andrew will no longer be referred to as Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and Baron Killyleagh from the Roll of Peerage.
King Charles issued a Letters Patent removing the HRH and Prince that had belonged, under the same 1917 rules, to Andrew. The line of succession matter is a little more complicated as it requires the unanimous vote of the 14 commonwealth nations. Three have already shown support for the matter.
Although, it is important to note that the King’s nieces, Beatrice and Eugenie, still hold the HRHs. It is a stark reminder that if Charles wanted to remove these titles, he could have easily done so.
It was a choice that he let his nieces have the royal perks. If he decides that his nieces should no longer be princesses, he could simply issue fresh Letters Patent that would remove their titles.
