King Charles has placed a royal stamp on Aberdeen-Angus’ 150-year legacy, attending the unveiling of the breed’s 150th Herd Book at Ballindalloch Castle.
As Royal Patron of The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, he attended the special event in Banffshire on Friday, where the anniversary publication was held at one of the breed’s oldest and most significant homes.
The Society later shared photographs from the occasion on Instagram, describing it as “a very special day”.
Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother served as patron of the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society for an extraordinary 65 years, cementing a relationship that has continued into the reign of King Charles.
Robert Gilchrist, Chief Executive of the Society, said: “To have His Majesty The King with us highlights the lasting appeal of such an iconic breed.”
New figures from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) shows Aberdeen-Angus remains exceptionally familiar to British consumers.
Mr Gilchrist said those figures demonstrated that the breed’s 150-year history was about more than tradition.
“Aberdeen-Angus is, by some distance, the most recognised named beef breed in Britain and perhaps even the world,” he said.
