Former Manchester United football manager Mark Hughes’s son, Alex Hughes, has passed away at the age of 38 due to sudden adult death syndrome (SADS). A coroner has confirmed the cause of his death.
Alex’s two sons found him unresponsive at his home in Macclesfield, Cheshire on June 19. The paramedics couldn’t revive the former Manchester City employee.
According to the BBC, Alex followed in his father’s footsteps and built a career in football administration. He held roles in recruitment teams of several clubs, including Manchester City and Grimsby Town.
The Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS), also known as sudden arrhythmic death syndrome, is the sudden, unexpected death of an apparently healthy young person or adult, typically caused by a fatal cardiac arrest where no definitive structural cause of death is found during a post-mortem.
His family has expressed grief over the tragic demise of Alex as Mark Hughes was “heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved son.”
He paid a heartfelt tribute to his son, describing him as “a wonderful son and a devoted husband.”
Mark said: “Alex was player recruitment lead at Grimsby Town FC, and had many good friends and colleagues. He will be so deeply missed by us all.”
Grimsby Town manager David Artell also paid a tribute to the late recruitment specialist, saying he was just “such a good guy.”
