Martha Stewart’s ex-husband resurfaced after more than two decades — but don’t expect a heartfelt reunion.
Stewart, 84, revealed that she hadn’t spoken to Andrew “Andy” Stewart in more than 20 years until her 2024 Netflix documentary Martha prompted him to get in touch. His reason? Apparently, divorce paperwork.
“He reached out ‘to remind me of divorce settlement statements, which I had never read,’” Stewart told People magazine.
“I mean, who cared after two years of arguing about a settlement? I still haven’t read it. He’s a jerk.”
Romantic? Not exactly.
Martha and Andy met as young students in New York, married and welcomed daughter Alexis before buying a fixer-upper in Westport, Conn.
That house would eventually become the starting point for Martha’s homemaking empire.
Their marriage, however, ended in divorce in 1990 after infidelity on both sides. Despite the messy ending, Stewart still looks back fondly on their early years.
“Oh, I was madly in love,” she said. “Of course I have very fond memories. We were a very fine couple. Wherever we went, we were the couple.”
These days, Stewart has little interest in making marriage a priority.
“The older you get, the less you really need a mate, I think,” she said. “I wouldn’t want to be beleaguered with an older, ill person.”
Dating, however? She’s not ruling it out — even with a younger man.
“Been there, done that,” she said. “I have lots of friends. I’m not a lonely person. I have a very, very full — oh, probably too full! — life.”
As for whether she’s dating? “I go out on… I don’t know if you call them dates or not, but I go out.”
