The Avengers are coming to life in a whole new way.
Disney has unveiled the first teaser for Avengers Infinity Defense, the massive new Marvel attraction coming to Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.
The first look was presented at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California, as Disney showcased upcoming attractions and experiences planned for its theme parks.
Robert Downey Jr. returns as Iron Man, joined by Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Iman Vellani will also reprise her role as Ms. Marvel, who helps set the mission in motion.
That means Downey Jr. is once again stepping into the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man this time not for a new MCU movie, but for a Disney theme-park attraction.
The attraction will put visitors directly into the action as newly recruited heroes.
According to Disney, guests will join the Avengers in a battle across multiple worlds to stop King Thanos and recover stolen Stark technology.
The adventure is expected to take guests through recognizable Marvel locations including New York City, Wakanda and Asgard.
Ms. Marvel will reportedly provide guests with their mission briefing before they are thrown into the larger battle alongside the Avengers.
Iron Man gets another mission
The return of Downey Jr. is perhaps the most intriguing part.
Tony Stark famously sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame, but Avengers Infinity Defense allows Downey Jr. to once again appear as Iron Man alongside his fellow original Avengers.
And there’s another layer of irony: Downey Jr. is also returning to the Marvel universe on the big screen as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.
For Disney Parks fans, however, he is still very much Tony Stark.
The attraction is scheduled to open in 2028, alongside Stark Flight Lab. Once complete, the two attractions will dramatically expand Avengers Campus and turn it into an even larger destination for Marvel fans.
So while Marvel’s movie universe is preparing for its next battle against Doom, Disney Parks is preparing its own multiverse showdown.
