Meghan Markle will be marking her milestone birthday on Tuesday and there are whispers about how Buckingham Palace will handle it, following the Highgrove reunion.
King Charles was finally able to meet his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in a short meeting with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex together as a family – for the first time in four years.
The meeting reportedly went for a couple of hours but the Palace emphasised that no more updates would be given since it was a private event. However, it now sparks speculation whether Meghan, who will be turning 45, get a formal birthday wish.
During peak of the royal friction, Prince Harry was wished on his 40th birthday, even though he was not a working royal member. It is tradition that for non-working members, a birthday wish is issued only on milestone events, while senior royals get a nod every year.
According to royal expert Jennie Bond, it is unlikely that the Firm will mark the special day.
“I doubt if there will be any formal birthday wishes posted for Meghan, but if the King really is in fairly regular contact – as has been suggested – then perhaps there will be a phone call or birthday card,” Jennie explained to The Mirror.
She added that it was a “good thing” the reunion happened as the children “deserve to see some family harmony”.
“And even though it must all have been rather awkward – after the accusations Harry and Meghan have made about the Royals – I’m sure everyone was on their very best behaviour.”
It is not a far-fetched thought to have since it was considered nearly impossible for the King to welcome Harry back with Meghan amid the legal proceedings taking place for his privacy case and police protection.
Hence, if Harry can get a wish for his 40th when the rift had been at its lowest, Meghan can get a nod, even a generic one written by Palace staff, when a reconcilation is in progress.
