U.S. first lady Melania Trump has maintained an unusually low public profile during Donald Trump’s second term, appearing in public on only 38 days so far.
Her last appearance was on July 19, when she attended the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey.
The former model has skipped several high-profile events that are commonly attended by first ladies. Some significant events include Senator Lindsey Graham’s funeral, the reimagined White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, and a July 22 ceremony honouring fallen U.S. service members.
The analysis conducted by NBC news reveals that she has done around half as many public events as she did at this point in President Trump’s first term.
Biographers and media observers note that Melania Trump is usually not considered outgoing and is selective about her public engagements. Even during her public appearances, she maintains a quiet, guarded demeanour and rarely engages in spontaneous public speaking.
Supporters have rallied to her defence on social media, arguing that she should not be expected to maintain the same public schedule as other first ladies.
At 56, the Slovenian native has consistently kept a lower profile than her predecessors, but her absence has become increasingly noticeable during the summer months. It remains to be seen whether she will increase her public appearances in the latter half of 2026.
