King Harald V of Norway has been admitted to hospital after a medical examination, with the 89-year-old monarch now set to take a two-week period of sick leave.
The Royal House confirmed that Harald was admitted to the National Hospital after doctors assessed his condition.
The King has been receiving cortisone treatment in recent weeks for the blood disorder haemolytic anaemia, which has subsequently led to fluid accumulation in his body requiring hospital treatment.
In a statement, the Royal House said the King would remain on sick leave for two weeks, during which time his son, Crown Prince Haakon, will serve as Regent.
The Palace added that it would provide further details about how the King’s hospitalisation would affect the Royal Family’s official programme.
