Mexican authorities have revealed that social media content creator and influencer Cesar Gastelum was shot and killed during a livestream with friends outside a fast food restaurant. The motive behind the killing remains under investigation.
According to the livestream recording, seen by Reuters, two men on a motorcycle wearing helmets approached and opened fire directly on the streamer, who boasted over 600,000 followers on TikTok.
Sinaloa security officials confirmed Gastelum’s death, adding that a massive security operation was underway to arrest the culprits behind this heinous crime.
The murder adds to the list of growing crimes in the capital of Sinaloa, Culiacan, where rival crime factions are competing for control.
This is not the first incident of violence against social media personalities in the North American country. In 2025, a Mexican beauty influencer Valeria Marquez was also killed in a similar incident during her livestream in the western state of Jalisco.
Previously, authorities have arrested the leader of Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and charged him with murder of the beauty influencer and also identified him as a suspect in the murder of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo.
The murder of Gastelum remains under investigation. Police have not yet confirmed any arrests made regarding the case.
