
Naomi Watts is celebrating Spider-Man: Brand New Day film’s record-breaking theatrical debut with a heartfelt message for longtime co-star Tom Holland.
Taking to social media, the actress posted two photos. Officially confirming her surprise role in the latest edition, one image showed her on the movie’s set and another featured Holland, 30, suited up as Spider-Man, posing alongside young fans dressed as the iconic web-slinger.
Alongside the snapshots, the Adoreactress reflected on their latest collaboration, writing, “From playing your mom to playing your AI (100% human made).”
“Congrats Tom, Destin, and the whole Spider-Man: Brand New Dayteam on the historic opening weekend!!” she added. “Immensely proud to even just a tiny part of this incredible film!”
Her new social media update confirmed what had been kept under wraps before the film’s release: she voices E.V.I.E. (E.V.), Peter Parker’s artificial intelligence assistant.
Notably, the role marks the Oscar-nominated actress’ Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.
The reunion is especially meaningful given Watts and Holland’s shared history. 14 years ago, she portrayed his mother in the critically acclaimed 2012 disaster drama The Impossible.
Her sweet tribute for Holland came as the superhero blockbuster reportedly shattered records with a $360 million domestic opening weekend in the United States and Canada, surpassing Avengers: Endgamefor the biggest domestic opening in history.
Internationally, the film amassed an estimated $932 million worldwide during its opening weekend before racing past the $1 billion mark in just six days.
