A new book about Tom Brady claims Gisele Bündchen ended their 13-year marriage with a brief, astrology-tinged declaration.
“We’re not compatible.” According to an insider cited in Lars Anderson’s forthcoming biography, Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, obtained by the Daily Mailon Friday, “One day, Gisele, who is really into astrology, basically looked into the stars and told Tom, ‘We’re not compatible.’ And just like that, she was done.”
The book traces the strain on the marriage back years earlier to Brady’s continued commitment to football, with Anderson alleging Bündchen had been pushing for his retirement since at least the 2017 Super Bowl, when the Patriots defeated the Falcons for Brady’s sixth championship.
Rather than celebrating the win, Bündchen allegedly asked him on the field, “Would now be the perfect time to retire?”
When she reportedly raised the question again later that day, Brady allegedly responded, “Too bad, babe. I’m having too much fun right now.”
Weeks later, during a vacation with Brady’s former Michigan teammate Jay Feely, Bündchen allegedly asked Feely to help persuade Brady toward retirement as a gesture of commitment to his family.
Feely, who previously discussed the moment with Sports Illustrated, recalled, “She was dead serious,” though he says he told Brady the opposite: “Play as long as you want.”
The tension reportedly deepened after the Patriots’ 2018 Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, when Bündchen allegedly wrote Brady a serious note asking for more presence at home.
“She needed him to be present when he was at home, not responding to text messages on his constantly buzzing cell phone or replaying a game in his mind,” Anderson writes.
“She needed more help with the kids. She needed the chance to sleep in just a few days a week. She needed more time for her own career.”
A former teammate told Anderson that Bündchen, by then “a bigger international star” than Brady himself, was growing weary of structuring her life around his schedule.
Another friend of Brady’s offered a blunter assessment of the toll.
“The guy gets up at the crack of dawn, thinks all day about a game that is foreign to his wife, comes home and is in bed each night by nine. He can’t really eat out or go out without causing a scene. Everything he puts in his mouth tastes like s—t. The whole lifestyle had to be getting tiresome for Gisele.”
Brady played for the Patriots from 2000 to 2019 before joining the Buccaneers, where he spent two more seasons before briefly retiring in February 2022, only to reverse the decision the following month, writing on social media at the time, “I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now.”
According to Anderson, Bündchen was upset by the reversal despite publicly supporting him, and briefly left for Costa Rica, leaving Brady distraught, former coaches and teammates told Anderson he appeared distracted and visibly lost weight upon returning to training camp that season.
Brady and Bündchen announced their divorce on October 28, 2022, citing their focus on co-parenting children Benjamin, now 16, and Vivian, 13.
At the time, Bündchen wrote on Instagram, “We have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always.”
Bündchen has since remarried, wedding jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente in December 2025, the couple shares a 1-year-old son.
Brady has since been linked to model Irina Shayk and internet personality Alix Earle.
