ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday rejected India’s statement on Islamabad’s military strikes against terrorist infrastructure in Afghanistan, calling it “baseless and preposterous”.

“Pakistan rejects the baseless statement on its legitimate, targeted and proportionate actions against terrorist infrastructure in Afghanistan,” Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, in a statement issued on X.

“This preposterous statement has been made by a country that has historically interfered in and undermined the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbouring countries, in contravention of the UN Charter,” Andrabi said.

He added that India continued to suppress the right to self-determination of Kashmiris in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in violation of relevant UN resolutions.

The spokesperson also lambasted India for actively aiding and sponsoring terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil against Pakistan, saying this was in violation of the relevant UN Security Council sanctions regime.

He said India continued to play the role of a regional spoiler and that its baseless accusations and inflammatory statements against Pakistan must not be entertained.

“Pakistan has been and will continue to take all appropriate measures to uphold the safety and security of its citizens in accordance with international law,” Andrabi said.

On Sunday night, security forces carried out calibrated strikes against terrorist hideouts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing 29 militants, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said.

In a post on X, Tarar said that the strikes were carried out in the aftermath of recent multiple terrorist incidents inside Pakistan against the innocent people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Camp in Karachi.

In continuation of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, Tarar said, security forces carried out precision strikes overnight between June 28 and 29 against terrorist camps and hideouts located in border regions.

Three targets in Paktia, Paktika and Kunar were destroyed, resulting in the deaths of 25 militants. Large quantities of weapons and ammunition stored at the targeted camps and hideouts were also destroyed during the operation, Tarar said.

Pakistan witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban came into power.

Pakistan launched “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq”, killing scores of Afghan Taliban operatives and allied militants and injuring hundreds more.

In October 2025, border clashes erupted after the Afghan Taliban and affiliated militants launched unprovoked attacks on Pakistani border posts.

Despite several rounds of talks, both countries have been unable to reach an agreement, largely due to the Afghan Taliban regime’s reluctance to take action against terrorist outfits.
