Phil Collins recalled a 6-month ICU stay after a scary health battle after his seven children came to say a final goodbye.
Collins reflecting on the ICU stay, where he was being treated for alcohol use disorder, said, “Because there were some decisions to be made about, ‘Do we keep Phil on life support?’ Kind of thing.”
In an interview with The Sunday Times, the Grammy Award-winner sheds light on the heartbreaking moment.
Collins, 74, fell unconscious in a Swiss hospital back in April 2024, under the influence of heavy alcohol use.
Phil’s manager called on his five children to be by his bedside to “make some decisions to be made about ‘Do we keep Phil on life support?’ kind of thing.”
“My kidneys were packing up. My organs were just seizing up. People were coming to say goodbye,” Collins explained.
“But I don’t remember them coming. I didn’t have no idea this was going on. They were all worried that they wouldn’t see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong,” Collins added.
Phil was first shifted to the hospital in connection with his alcohol use in November 2023.
He was released three days before Christmas, but weeks later, he was again in the ICU, that followed his seven-month stay in the hospital.
