A Pennsylvania State Police helicopter and a small plane smashed over Carlisle Airport in Pennsylvania’s Cumberland County on Wednesday night, August 19, 2026.
The incident has left one person dead, FAA officials confirmed.
The crash involved a Cessna 150 aeroplane and a Pennsylvania State Police Bell 407 helicopter.
The mid-air collision occurred near Carlisle around 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Governor Josh Shapiro shared an update on the crash and said the two troopers sustained injuries.
In a presser at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Centre, Pennsylvania State Police Acting Commissioner Lt Col George Bivens said that the incident happened when the Cessna hit the helicopter during a routine flight.
The pilot of the Cessna died on the spot.
The crew members of the helicopter were identified as Corporal Bryce Corman and Trooper Jason Mills, who were first struck inside the wreckage until Corman smashed a window open, and freed himself and Mills.
The two sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration along with Transportation Safety Board, ha launched an investigation to ascertain the facts and cause of the crash.
