Prince Harry has reportedly kept a close bond with his two cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie even when the royal rift had been at its peak.
It is understood that Eugenie is particularly close to the Sussexes and have even made effort to meet them halfway when Harry and Meghan were facing hostility in the UK and from the royals.
While nothing has been confirmed officially, it is believed that Harry and Meghan had taken their children to Portugal to meet Eugenie and her family just as she was to welcome her daughter Adelaide into the world.
According to a royal reporter Alicia Liberty, Harry could have taken the opportunity to publicly share his support for Eugenie to return the favour, supporting him during his tough time.
She argues that a subtle but public acknowledgement of their bond this summer may have helped Eugenie amid her own tough phase following the scandals of her parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson.
“For a man who has had plenty to say about the shortcomings of his own family, his apparent absence when two of its members could arguably have used him most is rather difficult to ignore,” she wrote in Express UK.
However, she noted that Harry likely called both sisters “privately” throughout the Andrew crisis.
“Families do not owe the public photographs of every conversation, hug or supportive message exchanged behind closed doors,” she said. “But publicly, as Beatrice and Eugenie dealt with the fallout and retreated from the limelight, there was no sign of the cousin whose corner they had seemingly remained in for years.”
Although, it is possible that things would have taken a turn for the worst for Eugenie, who revealed the name of her two-week-old daughter Adelaide.
Even if Harry wanted to share something publicly, it could have been misconstrued in a way which would have hurt a heavily pregnant Eugenie. For now, it was probably wise to keep the interactions private. It is likely that Harry and Meghan are happy and have sent their congratulations for Adelaide’s arrival.
