Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, are celebrating the arrival of their third child, a baby girl born on Monday, August 3, but one royal detail is still missing.
Buckingham Palace confirmed that the couple’s daughter was born at 6:20pm in Lisbon, Portugal, weighing 6lb 9oz.
The joyful announcement marked another milestone for the York family, yet three days later the newest royal addition has not appeared on the British monarchy’s official line of succession.
While the birth has been announced, the couple have not yet revealed their daughter’s name, and the Royal Family’s official website typically updates the line of succession only after a baby’s full name has been made public.
The same process was followed after the births of Princess Beatrice’s daughters, Sienna and Athena, as well as Eugenie and Jack’s sons, August and Ernest.
At present, Princess Eugenie remains 12th in line to the throne, followed by August in 13th place and Ernest in 14th.
Once their baby daughter’s name is announced and the official records are updated, she is expected to take the 15th position in the order of succession.
Her arrival will shift everyone below her down by one place. The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, will move from 15th to 16th, followed by James, Earl of Wessex, Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and Princess Anne, with the rest of the extended Royal Family also moving down a place.
The upper end of the succession remains unchanged. Prince William continues as heir to the throne, followed by Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Prince Harry remains fifth in line, with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet immediately behind him.
The newborn is the ninth grandchild of the Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson and the latest member of King Charles’s extended family.
oShe follows Princess Beatrice’s daughter, Athena Mapelli Mozzi, who was born in January 2025.
Although she is a great-niece of the King, the baby will not automatically receive a royal title.
Under long-established royal convention, titles are generally inherited through the male line, meaning the children of royal princesses are not styled as Prince, Princess or HRH unless a monarch decides otherwise.
