Role Model shook the internet with his new performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s recent hit, maggots for brains, from her album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.
The 29-year-old indie pop star took to social media and announced his performance before any reviews arrived, writing, “i covered olivia for BBC and im just gonna get ahead of the comments and let you know i botched it.”
The Sally, When The Wine Runs Out hitmaker, however, was proven wrong by many fans who shared praises for his cover.
Flocking to the comments, one fan wrote, “ROLE MODEL absolutely nailed the vibe. This cover is TOO good!”
Another added, “I love how he doesn’t have that fragile masculinity to say ‘I’m a sad shell of a woman’… that’s greenflag right there,” and “oh wait ROLE MODEL doing maggot for brains by Olivia Rodrigo?? that song is so wild and perfect for live lounge,” chimed in a third.
While some critiqued, “it’s… not great and I’m a huge fan of his,” and “great song choice, really rough performance.”
