Sandra Bullock apparently learned one Hollywood lesson early: not every audition is worth getting the job.
While chatting with longtime friend Jennifer Aniston for Interview magazine, the Practical Magic 2star opened up about her early days in New York — and the uncomfortable auditions that helped shape the career she wanted.
“I was auditioning for every pervert that existed, asking me to drop my pants. I was like, ‘Nope, not the role for me,’” Bullock recalled.
At the time, she was waiting tables and taking whatever acting opportunities came her way, like most struggling performers.
“I was working my way up. Every working actor thinks you will never work again so you just take what you can get and make the most of it.”
But Bullock eventually decided she needed to stop simply chasing whatever role came along. The biggest career reset came when she walked away from the rom-coms that had helped make her famous.
“I said, ‘I need to stop right now with the rom-coms,’ because I was getting so much shit for them. And I took a role in this film called Crash,” she said.
That gamble clearly paid off. Crashwon Best Picture at the 2006 Oscars, while Bullock later earned Best Actress for The Blind Side.
Now, four years after The Lost City, Bullock is back on the big screen with Practical Magic 2, her first movie since 2022.
And Hollywood apparently still wants her — just hopefully with slightly better audition etiquette this time.
The sequel earned $13 million domestically Friday, including previews, and is tracking toward an opening weekend around $30 million.
