Scott Eastwood is proving that sometimes ignoring your agents pays off.
The actor revealed on Armchair Expertthat nearly everyone on his team advised him to turn down Taylor Swift’s 2015 Wildest Dreams music video—advice he happily ignored.
“I remember telling my agents and none of them wanted me [to do it]. They were like, ‘This is a bad idea … do not do a Taylor Swift music video.’ And I said, ‘Nah, you know, I don’t agree. I think that she’s cool and she has a really cool idea for this thing and I think it’s a cool creative thing. So let’s do it.’ ”
Eastwood admitted the biggest surprise came before filming even began when Swift skipped the formal introductions and called him herself.
“She just picked up the phone and called me,” he recalled. “…She called and I had no pre-warning… But she’s like, ‘Hey, this is Taylor Swift.’ [I’m like], ‘OK, prove it!’ ”
The gamble turned into one of the most memorable projects of his career.
Directed by Joseph Kahn, the cinematic video cast Swift and Eastwood as movie stars falling in love while filming in Africa—a throwback to sweeping Hollywood epics.
“I was intrigued because of the creative behind the video, mostly,” Eastwood said. “She wanted to do, like, an out-of-Africa type thing… There’s only a couple of artists, like Taylor Swift, [where] you can do that or afford to make these sort of things.”
Looking back, the actor says he has no regrets.
“I do have fond memories of making that with her and I’m glad I did that,” he shared previously, before adding of Swift’s meteoric rise: “She’s become the biggest star in the world.”
