Taylor Swift has a surprisingly simple way of keeping herself grounded when her life starts feeling, well, Taylor Swift-sized.
The 14-time Grammy winner opened up about her coping mechanisms during a career-spanning conversation for The Icon Sessions, presented by the Recording Academy’s Songwriters & Composers Wing.
Swift admitted that one of the ways she handles intense public attention is reminding herself that she made the choice to pursue this life.
“I go through several processes and coping mechanisms that I’ve gone through over the years,” she said.
“And one of them is saying, ‘You chose this. You chose this every day. You could have opted out of this any day before it got unmanageably big.’ And I decided not to because I love it that much.”
For Swift, the equation remains pretty straightforward: fame can be overwhelming, but creating music makes it worthwhile.
“Everything that comes with this ultimately is worth it as long as I get to still make music,” she said.
The singer also recalled being told early in her career that she didn’t have a “valid perspective” to appeal to certain genres.
Instead of chasing universal approval, she focused on the listeners who connected with her work.
“I realized that I’m making music because I’m playing for the fans,” she said.
Swift’s comments come after another major career milestone.
In June, she was inducted into the 2026 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, where she described songwriting as the one part of her career that always came naturally.
“The songwriting, for me, is pretty much the only thing I ever just naturally did,” she said.
And honestly, after two decades of hits, it’s hard to argue with her.
