Tyga has defended his new album $TARFACE after it faced massive criticism from Doja Cat and Pitchfork.
Doja Cat talked about the album during a livestream on August 12, calling Tyga out for using artificial intelligence in his music.
Her comments quickly got viral and sparked major debates on the internet.
Tyga, however, responded later during an appearance on TMZ Live. While he disagreed with Doja’s opinion, he made it clear that he still cares about her.
“I love Doja, but she made a demonic album,” he said. “But I still love her.”
The two rappers have worked together before as well, including on the remix of Juicyand Freaky Deaky.
$TARFACE has also received backlash from Pitchfork, which gave the album zero stars.
Tyga appeared to brush off the review, saying, “I don’t really know what Pitchfork is, all I know is the devil uses a pitchfork.”
He’s been very open about using AI while making the album, explaining that the technology helped create some of the 1980s style sounds, including synths and guitars.
Tyga, moreover, added that the AI did not write his songs or perform them as he wrote the lyrics and recorded the vocals himself.
For Tyga, $TARFACE is meant to be something different, with its own sound and identity.
