Who was Eliana Moreno, reporter killed in helicopter crash covering LA Metro bus collision?

A local news helicopter reporter along with a pilot who was covering a tragic L.A. Metro bus collision died in a crash in Chatsworth.

NBC4 and Telemundo news reporter Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw were out for an assignment involving a car collision near an L.A. Metro bus on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when the driver of an SUV slammed his vehicle into an L.A. Metro bus at the intersection of Nordhoff Street and De Soti Avenue.

According to the L.A. Police Department, the crash resulted in the killing of three people and six injured.

Multiple U.S. local media outlets have reported that later on Tuesday evening, at around 7 p.m., a news helicopter went down between the two commercial buildings at 9151 N Mason Avenue in Chatsworth.

NBC4 later confirmed the helicopter was NewsChopper4 with two crewmembers onboard.

The helicopter was operated by Angel City Air and was on news coverage of the car crash involving L.A. Metro bus.

There were several other news helicopters out in the west San Fernando Valley community covering the incident.

Who was Eliana Moreno?

The fatal news helicopter crash left both the crewmembers onboard, Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw, died on the spot.

Moreno was a known TV personality for NBC4 and Telemundo 52, an affiliate of the Telemundo network.

She was employed with Angel City Air, a helicopter aerial production company, an affiliate of NBC Los Angeles (NBC4), as a news helicopter reporter and was out for an aerial coverage assignment for the network.

Moreno, an Orange County native, did her graduation from Chapman University earning a degree with majors in broadcast journalism and political science.

She joined the Angel City Air helicopter team in September 2010 and had a seasoned career reporting for a host of Southern California media stations.

The cause of the fatal crash still remains unclear, and a preliminary investigation is expected to be carried out soon to determine what actually led to the helicopter crash.
