As the world mourns the loss of legendary entertainer Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday, August 25, at 80 after a brief battle with cancer, attention is turning to the future of her vast estate.
She left an estimated $650-$700 million fortune, which will be distributed among her seven surviving siblings and her beloved Imagination Library charity, while her business empire, including Dollywood, continues to operate.
Her siblings include Stella Parton, who shared a deeply personal tribute this week revealing that Dolly, even in her final days, allowed doctors to try experimental cancer drugs – not for herself, but “in the hope that the treatment could help others in the future.”
Stella, along with siblings Willadeene, David, Robert Jr., Cassie, Freidda, and Rachel, are believed to be primary heirs. Her brothers Randy and Coy predeceased her, with Coy passing just last month at 82.
The theme park empire, Dollywood, and her other entertainment interests are operated through business structures. Although the park was shut down temporarily on Tuesday to honor its founder, it is still planning to keep going, with CEO Eugene Naughton saying her principles of “dreaming big” will shape its future.
Perhaps the major beneficiary is Parton’s beloved Imagination Library, the book-gifting program she founded in honour of her father. Having distributed more than 300 million books to children worldwide, the program will continue and is expected to receive substantial funding from her estate.
The family announced: “In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.”
