Charles Barkley had a simple reason for missing one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the year.
The NBA legend was invited to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding at Madison Square Garden in July.
Around 1,000 guests reportedly attended the huge celebration but Barkley decided not to go.
Barkley explained that he has a personal rule about weddings. He simply does not attend them, even when the people involved are close friends.
“I don’t go to weddings. I love Travis. Him and Jason are great friends of mine.
I got a lot of love and respect. I’ve only met Taylor one time, she’s an awesome person from a distance, and I’m happy for them. But I’m like, ‘Nah, I’m gonna politely decline,’” he said.
Barkley also said he did not want to take attention away from Swift on her big day.
“That’s the bride’s special day; let her enjoy herself. It’s your special day. I want her to have all the shine,” he added.
The former NBA star also revealed that he usually avoids funerals, although he makes exceptions for people who are truly important to him.
Despite skipping the wedding, Barkley made it clear that he got love and respect for Travis and Jason Kelce.
