Perez Hilton, the 48-year-old celebrity gossip blogger, was rushed to hospital on Tuesday night, August 4, after livestreaming footage of himself self-harming on TikTok from his Miami home.
The people who joined the livestream reported that he was visibly distressed, questioning why things weren’t working and stating he no longer wanted to be here.
He was seen covered in blood and was seen physically harming himself with a serrated knife.
The incident occurred at Hilton’s residence in the Westchester neighbourhood of Miami-Dade County, Florida. Just weeks ago, Hilton recently shifted from Las Vegas to Miami with his three young children.
Watching the livestream, many concerned people called the police. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed that they received “multiple calls regarding an individual who was livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media.”
Officers arrived at the scene and found Hilton alone inside his home. The sheriff’s office explained: “Unless there’s an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter.”
The paramedics then rushed Hilton to the hospital, where he is now under medical care. Members of crisis response teams and psychologists are also present to provide support for his family.
A statement was issued by Hilton’s managers, Dante Rusciolelli and Rebekah Kochan, saying: “We are aware of the concerning content circulating online involving our client, Perez Hilton. At this time, we have not been able to make direct contact with him, despite our ongoing efforts to reach him. Our primary concern is Perez’s health and well-being, as well as the well-being of his family.”
His TikTok page was banned immediately after the live stream started because the rules of the platform prohibit any videos of self-harm.
