Nintendo has confirmed that Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on Nintendo Switch will finally receive Pokémon Home support from October 2026, enabling players to transfer their Kanto region creatures to the cloud-based storage service.
The update comes as a welcome addition for fans who have been eagerly awaiting connectivity since the games’ release earlier this year. Once connected, players will be able to transfer Pokémon from the Kanto remakes to Home and bring them to other games in the franchise.
But the transfer is one-way. This means Pokémon moved to Home can’t return to FireRed or LeafGreen, and Pokémon from other games cannot be transferred into the Kanto titles. To celebrate this integration, The Pokémon Company is providing a special reward. Trainers who complete the Pokédex in FireRed will get the Mythical Pokémon Celebi as a gift in the mobile version of Pokémon Home.
Players won’t need to transfer any Pokémon to claim the reward. Once Home is connected, any Pokémon registered in the in-game Pokedex will automatically be recorded in Home. With the October update, Pokémon Go creatures caught in Safari Balls will become Home-compatible, and Premium Plan subscribers will see their deposit limit increased to 9,000 Pokémon.
With this announcement, speculation has sparked among fans that ports of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald could be on the horizon, given their connection to the Game Boy Advance era.
