WNBA senior journalist Holly Rowe became the centre of the controversy after she apparently snubbed WNBA sensation Caitlin Clark.
During a WNBA game in front of a packed Toronto crowd, Rowe couldn’t hold back her emotions during a charged Indiana Fever vs. Toronto Tempo game on Tuesday, August 18, in Canada.
Rowe shot a video of herself breaking down in tears even before the match started, inside the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada.
The one-minute-long video highlighted crowd shots and a crying Rowe as she basked in the scene.
The video went viral and sparked debate online with netizens calling Rowe for snubbing WNBA star Caitlin Clark as she didn’t reference her at any point in the video.
“I’m trying to work a basketball game tonight,” Rowe started before covering her mouth as she got emotional.
“But I keep crying because look at what they have built. I literally cannot quit crying to do my job right now. I mean, we have 19,000 people coming tonight to watch women’s basketball, and I’m just so proud. I’m really proud,” Rowe added.
The crowd came to cheer for the Fever’s star Caitlin Clark; after Rowe didn’t mention the latter, they criticised the longtime WNBA journalist.
For context, the game marked Clark’s debut appearance in Canada.
The Fever defeated Toronto, 101-95, to extend their winning streak to five games.
