United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order altering the child-vaccination recommendations in the country. President Trump appeared drowsy throughout the signing ceremony at the White House on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
During the ceremony, the 80-year-old Republican leader signed the Order as Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., spoke before officials and attendees within the room.
Video clips from the event showed President Trump struggling to stay awake.
The Executive Order requires U.S. Department of Health officials to review the present childhood vaccination schedule and offer parents more flexibility in regards to which vaccinations are given to their children and when they can receive them.
The order lists 11 core childhood vaccines, including vaccines against measles, mumps, rubella and polio, as recommended for children.
However, hepatitis B, COVID-19 and flu vaccines would be moved toward recommendations based on individual risk factors or decisions made between parents and doctors.
The decision regarding whether the non-mandatory vaccinations are necessary will depend on the specific risk factors of each child. Parents may make decisions concerning these vaccinations along with their doctor.
Additionally, the government is seeking to administer vaccines separately and farther apart so that multiple vaccinations do not take place at the same time.
An additional aspect of the Executive Order instructs Federal Health officials to research alternative options to Aluminum-based vaccine adjuvants utilized in vaccine development and to develop better systems to monitor vaccine-related adverse events.
Supporters of President Trump’s “Make America Healthy Again” movement support the changes stating that parents need more authority over their children’s healthcare.
Critics contend that alterations to the well-established childhood vaccination schedule could lead to reduced vaccination rates resulting in increased risks of disease transmission due to unvaccinated children.
