AT&T has acknowledged that some iPhone 18 Pro Max devices are experiencing cellular problems and is urging customers to update their phones immediately.
In a message sent to users this week, the company warned that some phones “may be unable to complete calls/ text/ data, including 911.”
Users are advised to update to iOS 27.0.1 right away via Settings> General> Software Update.
The issue with the new model of iPhone was also reported for over a week on Reddit and the Apple Support Community.
However, many users say the update has not resolved the issue, as Apple’s release notes for iOS 27.0.1 make no mention of cellular fixes, listing only repairs for a Face ID bug, a camera colour artefact and a frozen touchscreen.
It is interesting to note that the iPhone 18 Pro Max in the United States is the only new iPhone with a cellular modem from Qualcomm. All other variants, like the smaller iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhones Duo and iPhone 18 Pro Max being sold in other countries, have Apple’s C2 modem. It is still not clear why this happens.
Some customers at Apple Stores got their devices replaced, and some of them confirmed that the connectivity issue has been sorted out. The reason for this is still not clear, and Apple has not made any public statement regarding this.
If it is due to a software error, then another update, iOS 27.0.2, will be needed. However, in case of a hardware issue, this would be a greater problem for Apple.
