Duchess Sophie returned to the spotlight with a delightful update about her new meaningful role.
The ‘secret weapon’ of King Charles has been announced as a new royal patron of Visualise Scotland, a charity that aims to help adults with visual impairment.
They also provide support to people with complex disabilities across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Sophie has been quite vocal about solving preventable blindness. She is also the Global Ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.
The Duchess of Edinburgh also has an Honorary Fellowship from the College of Optometrists.
Before honouring Sophie with a fellowship, President Dr Gillian Rudduck lauded the efforts of Prince Edward’s wife to raise her voice and work in eliminating avoidable sight loss.
She added, “The Duchess of Edinburgh’s work championing eye health projects in both the United Kingdom and in countries around the world is an inspiration to us all. Fellowship is the College’s highest accolade and recognises outstanding contributions to vision and eye health.’
“This new patronage, then, is but the latest chapter in one of the causes that has come to define the diligent Duchess’s royal career.”
