Jessie J wants fans to know that she’s okay.
On Saturday, August 15, The Sunreported that the singer is back on the celebrity dating app Raya, weeks after her split from Chanan Colman. Before the story was published, Jessie took to her Instagram to address the report beforehand in a sarcastic video message, though some fans were fooled by her Oscar-winning tears.
“My management have just told me something, and I want to tell you guys the truth,” the 38-year-old began in a shaky voice, her eyes red and puffy. “There is a story being run about me tomorrow in The Sun— an article. And I did, I did do it. I did.”
She went on to confess, “I updated and reactivated my Raya account — on a dating app. I did it, I did it, I did. For two days. I surrendered, and I just got excited and I updated my pictures, but I didn’t update my bio ‘cause I wanted to be mysterious.”
The Bang Bang hitmaker briefly broke character and winked directly at the camera, before resuming her emotional act. “But I’ve deactivated it now. I’ve deactivated it and I’m sorry,” she concluded.
Although the video was meant to be “unserious,” some fans rushed to the comments section to express their concern. This prompted Jessie to clarify that she was just acting.
“People are checking on me. People think I’m actually sad. Oh my gosh,” she said while laughing in a video posted to her Stories. “Guys, I’m being very unserious, okay? Maybe I took the acting too seriously, and the real tears in my eyes were a bit much. Oh my goodness, the comments — the reactions are cracking me up even more now.”
Last month, the Grammy-nominated singer shared in an Instagram statement that she and Chanan — who share a toddler — have split up after five years together.
“It has been a sad and difficult situation, but we have been focused on navigating the change privately and positively for a healthy and happy co-parenting environment for our son and ourselves,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, being in the public eye, this is the easiest way to let people know the truth, before rumours circulate or a false narrative is written.”
