Why are BTS ARMY is upset?
The backlash largely centers on Brown’s controversial history. He pleaded guilty to felony assault in 2009 after attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna, and he has faced further legal controversies over the years.
In 2025, he pleaded not guilty in London to charges stemming from an alleged 2023 nightclub assault.
His current tour with Usher has itself generated controversy. Usher has faced criticism over an awkward viral interaction with a female fan during a July concert, while the broader tour has continued to attract scrutiny because of Brown’s history.
That context explains why some BTS fans saw J-Hope and RM’s attendance as more than an ordinary night at a concert.
For these fans, being visibly enthusiastic at the show felt like giving attention and visibility to an artist they believe should not be celebrated.

“It’s just music,” one fan argued, while another said they felt sorry for the members for having to deal with what they described as an increasingly toxic fandom.
One fan bluntly dismissed the narrative, writing, “There is no ‘it’s just a song’ excuse when the singer is a [sic] …”
